4 Months

Olivia is 4 months and a day today. I decided to consolidate yesterday with today's post in lieu of Olivia's 4 month check-up being today. Yesterday we did our traditional morning bath, then a photo with Boo and lastly a photo with Mom & Dad.

We also hear from people how much older Olivia seems behavior-wise. I think it's because she was a full-term baby, but I'd prefer to think that she's just smart and amazing! :) At 4 months, she is starting to add a bit of giggle to her smile. At times she really does seem like she's trying to converse with you. Most other times, she is talking to herself and laughing to herself.

She loves music. If she's ever in a pouty mood (oh yes, she's learned to use the pout very well) we turn on Baby Einstein's Sing and Play CD. Of all the children songs on that CD she loves "Head, Shoulder, Knees & Toes," especially if you do a little dance with it. Both this song and Alphabet Song will get her singing along.

She is also starting to roll over on her own. It is the funniest thing, she'll kick up her leg and then roll them over. Sometimes she'll toot in her efforts to turn over, which is one alternative to the bicycle method. She's also wants to be either sitting up or standing propped. The only difficulty in that is that she can't balance herself, which means you have to, which means a lot of arm exercise and control. You can see her get frustrated when she's not sat upright by someone. She'll kick and she'll jabber at you wanting you to sit her upright. You also see the concentration in her eyes rolling over, moving her legs - trying to push them or get them under her. I think if her arms were as developed/coordinated as her legs, she'd be crawling right now. I finally was able to capture a video of it. She started rolling awhile back in early January. The concentration on her face is hilarious. She scrunches up her face and kicks (go to YouTube to watch video). Now it comes more naturally to her.

She loves to grab things, anything your finger, arm, Ned the butterfly, rattle, clothes and just put them in her mouth. You'll also catch her trying to stick both fists in her mouth - she'd make her Aunt Sindy proud if she could!

We moved her to her room 3 weeks ago. I was excited that she was going to get to use her cute room, but sad that she is no longer co-sleeping with us. It was the best thing in the world (well 2nd to sleeping alongside my husband...haha..ehem). I kept asking my gf's for reassurance that it won't spoil them this young. And though Olivia for the most part was easy in transitioning her to her own room, I firmly believe that she knew that first night where she was and that she wanted to co-sleep with us. I decided to stay overnight in her room, and still am. I just think it's so much easier than going down the stairs in the freezing hallway to feed her. Am still figuring out when and how to ween MYSELF from her room! ;b

Back to yesterday's traditional monthly activities. Bathing. She's now started kicking in the bath tub. The previous bath from yesterday she kicked a little, but as you will seen in the video below. She was having a field day kicking her feet and watching herself kick. I think we are going to have to remove the infant net soon so that she can play around.

As for today, we had a great visit with Dr. Tanaka (she's now the peds doc for 3 other of our friends!). Olivia did very well and showered Dr. Tanaka with smiles. She is 75th percentile for both height and weight!

Here are her 4 Month stats (click for 2 month):
Height - 25 in
Weight - 14.14 lb
Head - 41.5 cm

I am a little surprised with her weight. I feel like she's about 15-16 lbs! But apparently not. We are very happy with her stats because her last visit, she had dropped in height percentile and went from 50-60th percentile to 80th on her weight. I was concerned with her milk intake - that I'm not giving her enough milk. Dr. Tanaka is very happy with where Liv is at. She says the amount of milk I'm giving her whether it's little or just right is perfect per her weight gain.

There's many more little things that she does that will just amaze you. You'll have to come for a visit and see for yourself. We are all quite smitten by her. For now, we hope that you'll enjoy some of the moments we managed to capture via photo or video.
