Happy Birthday 婆 婆!

This year is a lot of first birthday celebrations for Olivia. She's already celebrated mine, her Dad's and now it's her 婆 婆 birthday. We celebrated in the city at Michael Minna's restaurant RN74. As Olivia's 婆 婆 loves the city atmosphere. Olivia had no problems fitting in to the trendy environment. All dolled up and well behaved, she sat and watched us dine. Being as social as she was, she even struck up some smiles with the ladies a few tables over!

I just can't believe that we are here now with Olivia when the last time we were at RN74, we were celebrating Mother's Day (celebrating my mom and myself - as I was preggers with Liv) last year! My how time flies!

We continued 婆 婆's bday celebration the next night at home. As you can see by the photos below, Liv was very curious about the bday cake and could not get wait to get her hands on it! She got to help her 婆 婆 blow out candles!

5 Months

Liv at 5 Months

Liv is growing so fast! We ended up taking her 5 months photos a few days late, as we were too busy with her Red Egg & Ginger the day she turned 5 months! We've also gotten a bit lazy in taking family photos each month. It's quite hard with Dave's schedule and getting the right lighting in our room. We also do not have any real measurements of her growth progress as we do not have a doctor's appointment for 5 months. So you'll have to tune in for our 6 month check-up.

Some quick updates are that she's starting to sit up more straight. She likes to sit in her bumbo which allows for her to sit on the counter to watch me make breakfast, or at the dinner table to watch us eat dinner. She continues to rollover from her back to her tummy, but I think she's happier when she's sitting.

Happy Birthday Dad!

We got to celebrate David's birthday with Olivia for the first time. And to add icing to the cake, David's parents were visiting from Hawaii! We went to our local dining joint, Zen Bistro. We wanted Olivia's attendance so we went down to Zen Bistro for a 5:30pm seating. The advantage of going so early was that we made it to happy hour and got to order great deals on rolls, tempura, etc. Olivia and I got a japanese cheesecake that was yum! We got to sing happy birthday and watch David blow out his candles at the restaurant before coming home. As always, Liv behaved very well at the dinner table!

Grandma & Grandpa Feldman and Auntie Sharon Too!

Olivia was so happy to see her Grandparents and Auntie Sharon. We were able to squeeze in some photos before everyone had to go home. She misses them very much and treasures every minute she has with them. The next time she'll see them is at her Uncle Aaron's wedding in Kona. We need to take some videos the next time we see Grandma and Grandpa Feldman so that we can play it for Olivia from time to time.

Red Egg & Ginger Oh My!

Yesterday was Olivia's Red Egg and Ginger. For those who are not familiar or want to better familiarize themselves with this tradition, click here. Because we did not have a wedding banquet when we got married, Bonnie felt compelled to throw a large party in celebration of debuting Olivia. We had about 148 adults and about 30 kids (ranging from newborn to elementary school).

We had such a difficult time thinking of a place and finding a place that will hold so many people, that is affordable and classy. Thanks to Olivia's 婆 婆's suggestion, we ended up having the Red Egg and Ginger at Straits Restaurant on Burlingame Avenue. We had the entire restaurant all to ourselves and it barely contained everyone. I felt bad for the restaurant and for my guests as it was clear that we are the largest group ever for Straits to handle at one time. We were running out of items quickly and there were long lines. In retrospect, we should have servers standing behind the buffet serving out portions, as I heard there were a lot of scraps on the table. All in all, everyone said the food was delish and that they had a great time.

Olivia was such a trooper having been dressed up right after her nap and rushed over to Straits to meet lots of strangers! She never once cried, though there were a couple of doe-eyed frozen moments. For the most part she just observed and stared until eventually she fell asleep in her mom's arms with 40 minutes left to go.

Olivia is such a lucky girl to have so many people who want to come celebrate and meet her. Her Grandmother and Grandfather came all the way over from Honolulu and her Auntie Sharon, Great Auntie Lorraine and Great Uncle Roy flew up from SoCal. Also from SoCal was Liv's Jenny Yi-Yi. Grandpa Takeguchi's sister came (Great Aunt Kea). My 嬤嬤's sisters (Great Great Aunts #6, #10, #11) came. I only wish my grandparents on both sides were able to be there as well. Or just to meet Olivia as they would be smitten by her.

All in all, the venue was great, the food was great, the company was great and Olivia had a grand ol' time people watching!

Thank you to everyone who came to greet and meet Ms. Olivia!
